What is CeeLite?
CeeLite, Inc. is an innovator in researching, developing and commercializing Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC) technology and was also the first to commercialize lighting panels utilizing LEC technology. CeeLite® is headquartered in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia, and has research and development and manufacturing operations in Hsinchu, Taiwan through Rilite. The principal executive offices are located in Blue Bell. CeeLite currently employs 95 employees, of which approximately 25 are located in the United States and 70 are located in Taiwan. The United States-based employees are engaged in market development, sales, finance and management, while the employees located in Hsinchu, Taiwan are engaged in research and development, manufacturing and sales to Asian customers.
What is LEC Technology?
CeeLite Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC) technology consists of three distinct components: LEC panels, proprietary power source (“inverter”) technology and the lighting element construction and layering configuration or “standard packaging” process. CeeLite LEC panels are thin (approximately one millimeter), flexible and lightweight light sources that may be used on flat or curved surfaces to illuminate the surface itself and to provide illuminated advertisements, signs and architectural surfaces.
LEC technology is an award-winning platform technology that can be easily configured to work with existing technologies, therefore enabling its delivery and use in a large number of end-use products. CeeLite’s platform LEC technology was named as one of the “Best Inventions 2006” by Time Magazine, one of the “Products of the Year 2007” by Electronics Products Magazine, “Editors Choice Top 100 Products 2007” in Buildings Magazine and the “Green Company Executive Award 2008” by Emerald Asset Management.
How is LEC Technology different from traditional lighting technologies?
The platform LEC technology is distinct from existing lighting sources and is considered to be a separate category of products from anything currently available in the lighting industry. The lighting industry currently includes traditional light sources such as incandescent, fluorescent, electroluminescence (“EL”) and neon lighting, as well as newer light sources such as light-emitting diode (“LED”) and organic light-emitting diode (“OLED”) technologies. LEC technology is distinct from existing lighting sources and can be considered a separate category of products from anything currently available in the lighting industry. Lighting products utilizing LED and OLED technologies produce light by combining multiple smaller points of light into a larger light source. CeeLite LEC technology is distinguished from LED and OLED technologies in that the LEC panels produce a uniform source of light without multiple points, across a larger flexible area, are visible from a wide angle, are more durable and are not sensitive to vibration. CeeLite LEC panels also produce light that ensures the color accuracy of the illuminated surface or object.
How do CeeLite LEC panels compare to conventional EL lighting?
The technology underlying CeeLite LEC panels has its genesis in an older technology known as electroluminescence or “EL”. However, the platform LEC technology is distinguished from traditional EL technology in that, among other things, CeeLite LEC panels provide whiter light without a blue cast, have a significantly longer life, provide a more uniform illumination across their surface, emit less noise and electromagnetic interference (“EMI”), utilize power inverters to regulate power output and maintain a more constant brightness and contain certain safety features not contained in traditional EL panels
How are CeeLite encapsulated LEC panels produced?
CeeLite encapsulated LEC panels are produced using patented encapsulation technology and copolyester resins from Eastman Chemical Company. CeeLite licenses Eastman Encapsulation Technology™ for production of encapsulated LEC panels. Spectar™ copolyester from Eastman™ provides the desired physical properties, chemical resistance and barrier properties as well as the needed ease of fabrication for CeeLite’s broad application spectrum.
Are CeeLite LEC panels environmentally-friendly?
The SYLVANIA phosphors in CeeLite LEC panels are not on any hazardous materials list and can be handled as non-hazardous waste. Per SYLVANIA’s MSDS, the phosphors have not been identified as a known or suspected carcinogen.
CeeLite encapsulated LEC panels are produced using patented encapsulation technology and copolyester resins from Eastman Chemical Company. Spectar™ copolyester from Eastman™ is recoverable and reusable in numerous applications today. Eastman™ has been awarded GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification for its copolyester resins. This honor recognizes Eastman for manufacturing low emitting products for better indoor environments. Products extruded with Eastman’s copolyester resins are in compliance with the stringent chemical emission guidelines set forth by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI), allowing the consumer to breathe easy when using these materials in an indoor space.
Drexel University has received grant approval from the Green Building Alliance for the use of CeeLite LEC panels in their “Smart House Project.” The Smart House Project will use the platform LEC technology to design a commercially viable product for residential lighting applications.
What are CeeLite Flatline Inverters and how do they differ from standard inverters?
CeeLite currently designs and manufactures proprietary inverters for the LEC panels. The proprietary Flatline Inverter design includes electronics that power LEC panels to provide a constant light output and optimize the LEC panel’s life. Flatline Inverters are programmable with proprietary software that enables an LEC panel to fade and flash and also provides brightness control. These controls are provided as standard features. CeeLite’s proprietary inverter designs also include unique safety features suited for a number of applications.
How bright are CeeLite LEC panels?
CeeLite standard LEC panels can be powered to illuminate up to 200 candelas per sq meter which is ideal for transit advertising, media advertising, street signs and architectural design. CeeLite LEC panels are available with higher brightness levels for custom designs and applications.
What is the color temperature of CeeLite LEC panels?
The color temperature of CeeLite LEC panels ranges from 7,500 to 11,000 degrees Kelvin, which enables more vibrant graphics for true color tones, images and anything printed on clear, backlit media. The cooler color temperature of 11,000 degrees.
What is the largest standard size LEC panel?
CeeLite LEC panels can be flexible, semi-rigid or rigid and are available in standard sizes and shapes up to 18 square feet. Custom shapes and sizes are available with minimum order requirements.
